Ioannis Parodis

Dr. Ioannis Parodis is a Senior Consultant Rheumatologist at Karolinska University Hospital and Associate Professor of Rheumatology at Karolinska Institutet, also serving as a Senior Lecturer at Örebro University. He specializes in clinical and translational research in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis (LN), with a focus on biomarkers and treatment outcomes.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Athens in 2006 and completed his PhD at Karolinska Institutet in 2017, focusing on SLE biomarkers and biologics. His postdoctoral work has included studies on kidney biopsy in lupus nephritis and clinical strategies for personalized biological therapies.

Dr. Parodis leads multiple research initiatives, including the ReBioLup international trial on repeat kidney biopsy in LN and serves as co-lead in major European consortia such as 3TR and X-HiDE, investigating molecular mechanisms and treatment responses in autoimmune diseases.

He has received numerous awards, including from the Swedish Society for Rheumatology, and is the President-Elect of the European Lupus Society (SLEuro). In addition to his clinical and research duties, he plays a key role in medical education and curriculum development at Karolinska Institutet.

His research also extends into medical pedagogy and AI-enhanced learning, exploring how social robotics can improve clinical training and reasoning.
